6 Hiring Trends You’ll See in 2022
In our recent discussion on 2022 hiring trends, Newance CEO Amanda identified 6 things companies should pay attention to this year:
More attention paid to what people REALLY want
People are still people. What people want hasn’t changed; it’s just that companies are more likely to support those desires now. As Amanda says, “I don’t know if it’s new that people value flexibility, or that people value fairness, or that people value belonging. Those are not new as desires, it’s just maybe new as the way we think about them and deliver them to employees.”
Increased funding for startups
The common misconception that startups don’t have the funds to properly compensate their employees will dwindle. More and more startups will offer very competitive salaries and benefits.
More transparency
A more transparent workforce will take center stage. This can start as simple as sharing salary ranges upfront, which is already happening across the country. For example, it’s already required in states like Connecticut and Colorado, and New York City is following suit in Spring 2022. The truth is that transparent companies will succeed. Amanda notes, “This is an incredible opportunity to stand out from the noise.”
Truly distributed workforces
The future of work will see a more balanced distribution of where and how the work is being done. There will be more shared tasks and less risk in losing information. For example, “If you’re still in a place where most of the important information lives within someone’s head, there’s a lot of risk there...How do we de-risk this and create systems that function instead of just people?” There will also be a shift: People doing work at the same time in different places vs. doing the work at different times in different places. It’s becoming more important that your data is stored in the right way to support that.
Liquid Work
Amanda explains, “[Liquid work] means that rather than having one full-time plastic job, I would consider myself as having an income portfolio.” Moving forward, we will see more flexibility for employees in the type of jobs they have. It may not just be a single 9-to-5 anymore.
Wellness non-tangibles
Companies are becoming more concerned with providing healthy working lives for their employees. “What I see growing very much in this space is an emphasis on non-tangibles that are connected to wellness,” Amanda says. Organizations will begin thinking about what it means to support someone as a person, not just a worker.
